ETQAAN Authority Held the Second Workshop to Discuss and Develop Accreditation Standards for Technological Universities
Within the framework of its efforts to disseminate the culture of quality and enhance the readiness of Technological Higher Education institutions to obtain accreditation, the Egyptian TVET Quality Assurance and Accreditation Authority (ETQAAN) held, on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, the second workshop to discuss and develop accreditation standards for technological universities. The workshop followed up on the outcomes of the first workshop held in July to address the same topic, with the participation of representatives of the Supreme Council for Technological Education, presidents and representatives of technological universities and their quality assurance units, as well as a number of experts and specialists in quality assurance and accreditation.
During the workshop, Dr Dalia Taha, Senior Expert at ETQAAN Authority, presented the general framework of the accreditation standards and the mechanisms for their implementation. The discussions also continued on the comments and proposals submitted by the participants, in preparation for reaching an integrated and applicable set of standards that reflects the nature of technological universities and the needs of the labor market, while aligning with national and international best practices in quality assurance and accreditation field.
The discussions addressed several key areas of the standards, including leadership and governance, institutional management, resources and capabilities, education and learning aligned with labor market needs, applied research and innovation, community engagement and partnerships with industry, as well as institutional quality, performance management, and continuous improvement.
As part of efforts to strengthen international cooperation, Dr Heba El-Zein, Director of the Education Sector at the British Council, announced cooperation between the British Council, ETQAAN Authority, the United Kingdom, and the Scottish Qualifications Authority, as well as cooperation with ETQAAN Authority to qualify the cadres of Technological Higher Education institutions, enabling them to meet institutional and program accreditation standards and obtain accreditation through support aimed at enhancing the performance of technological universities and institutes, strengthening the implementation of the national quality framework adopted by the Authority, and leveraging international expertise and practices in quality assurance and accreditation field.
The workshop also highlighted the importance of strengthening integration between technological universities and the labor market. Prof. Dr Hany Mounib, Representative of the Founding Committee of the Technologists Syndicate, commended the technical and technological education system, emphasizing the important role of the Syndicate in supporting graduates of technological institutes and universities and strengthening their alignment with labor market needs.
Prof. Dr Mohamed Mousa Emarah, Chairman of ETQAAN Authority, affirmed that continuing the discussions and development of accreditation standards for technological universities represents an important step towards establishing comprehensive standards that reflect the nature of the technological education system and the needs of the labor market. He noted the Authority’s commitment to developing the standards through a professional and participatory dialogue involving all relevant stakeholders, thereby ensuring their applicability and supporting technological universities in meeting accreditation requirements.
He added that ETQAAN Authority continues its efforts to disseminate the culture of quality, contributing to the development of the performance of technological education institutions and programs and enhancing the quality of their outcomes, while strengthening their capacity to meet labor market requirements both nationally and internationally, in line with Egypt’s direction towards developing technological education in accordance with national and international standards.
